Research

The principal of clinical research is to produce the evidence to improve medical practices and contribute patients' wellness. The principal of our research and education is to foster a medical professional with a sense of ethics and mission who can play actively in a variety of field. Our research and education is conducted in cooperation with various clinical institutions in order to foster a clinical pharmacist as a researcher with knowledge in clinical pharmacy as well as an ability to think and judge in clinical research. Cooperative research is also conducted with graduates from our department who are working in government offices (national/local), medical institutions, community pharmacies, pharmaceutical industries.

Research Issues

1) Over-the-counter drugs
Research on the attitudes of consumers as well as medical professionals towards over-the-counter drugs, their attitudes towards OTCs' labeling and boxes, actual conditions of consumers' use in real practice of switched OTCs are conducted in cooperation with Welcia Kanto Co., Ltd and Kanemata pharmacy.
2) Drug use during pregnancy and lactation
Research on efficacy and safety of drug use (including vaccinations) during pregnancy and lactation based on clinical data are conducted in cooperation with St. Luke's International Hospital and other clinical institutions.
3) Generic drugs in clinical practices
Generic drug use rate in clinical practices in Japan is still low in spite of government promotion of generic drugs use. Research on differences between brand drugs and generic drugs in factors affecting drug use in clinical practice, such as physical properties of tablets and pasting products, are conducted with Maru corporation Co., Ltd.
4) Drug information for pediatrics and pharmaceutical consulting at pharmacy
Pharmaceutical consulting on how to take medicines are necessary for some of drugs for children. Research on pharmaceutical consulting for drugs for children and consolidating the information necessary for pharmaceutical consulting for drugs for children is conducted in cooperation with Chiba Pharmaceutical Association, Data Index Co., Ltd.
5) The association between children's allergy and mother's food intake
Research on the association between children's allergy and mother's food intake during pregnancy and lactation are conducted in cooperation with Tokyo Women's Medical University Center east.
6) Labeling of over-the-counter drugs
Research on how to provide over-the-counter drugs' information for medical professionals are conducted in cooperation with medical professionals in medical institutions.

Our research achievements in cooperation with medical professionals in medical institutions are presented at various national or international academic conferences, the pharmaceutical society of Japan, Japanese society of pharmaceutical health care and sciences and Japan pharmaceutical congress of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, and published in national or international academic journals.
