About the Graduate School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences

The Graduate School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences was established at Chiba University as a graduate school for education and research combining pharmaceutical and medical research. In 2001, this unique organization started operating. It is the first organization of its kind in Japan. It aims to foster advanced research capabilities and the deep underlying knowledge required for pursuing research in the specialist fields related to medicine and pharmacy. The Graduate School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences offers a master’s course and a doctoral course. Graduates of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and so on can take a two-year master’s course in General Pharmaceutical Sciences (pharmaceutics) or Medical Sciences (medicine). Furthermore, graduates of the 6-year program who qualify to take the national examination for pharmacists can take the doctoral course. The programs at the Graduate School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences are taught by staff belonging to the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Graduate School of Medicine, as well as from the Chiba University Hospital, the School of Nursing, the Medical Mycology Research Center and so on. In addition, researchers from the Chiba University Center for Environment, Health and Field Sciences, the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and the Kazusa DNA Research Institute also participate in teaching at the graduate school as cooperating joint course teaching staff.
